“Spectacular achievement is always preceded by unspectacular preparations”
~ Robert H. Schuller
It is wisely said that success is where preparations meet opportunities. One needs to be aware of the different opportunities to set a goal and design a proper preparation strategy.
Keeping the above points in consideration, an intuitive webinar was organized by the editorial cum media body of B.I.T. Sindri – Sarjana on Sunday 23rd January 2022. The eminent speaker of the session was Dr. Rajesh Ranjan, Ph.D. researcher, and assistant professor in Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur. He is an esteemed alumnus of the 2001-2005 batch and a notable member of Sarjana and Vitaan. The topic of the session was “Exploring the sky of higher studies”.

The very beginning of the session started with giving a warm welcome to Dr. Rajesh Ranjan. The speaker was introduced by Mr. Anil Kumar who gave a very riveting narration of Dr. Ranjan’s eventful academic journey. The session commenced with the speaker bringing the attention of everyone towards the different career prospects after graduation. He introduced the different fields a student can pursue after the GATE examination. Being a research scholar himself, Dr. Rajesh discussed in detail, the career in research with challenges and its virtues.

He brought a comparison between higher studies and the industrial domain, where he explained how flexibility and intellectual autonomy is more with low pay. He then further explained the importance of higher studies and how it can be helpful in the long run. Discussion continued with the pros and cons of research, as it brings up a better perspective of life with the realisation of true potential, but there is a lack of financial aid for graduates and needs time and patience.
The session moved on with the speaker throwing light on the GATE syllabus, and the pattern of questions generally asked in the exam. Being the AIR -3 in GATE Chemical Engineering, he shared his preparation strategy with the audience and asked them to incline more on conceptual learning methods. He further continued the discussion on how conceptual learning is better than factual learning and briefed the different pondering points to be conceptually sound in subjects. The one-hour long session rounded off with a Q&A segment where several doubts of students on topics such as GATE examination, handling stress while preparations and many more were taken into concern. Dr. Rajesh also shared his experience as a researcher in different workplaces he had worked in that capacity. At the end of this engaging webinar, the guest speaker was greeted with a vote of thanks by the host for his precious time and guidance. After the session, the students seemed immensely motivated as the words of the guest speaker instilled within them, some much needed vigour. With this, the session came to an end with students learning valuable insights about higher studies..
