On September 22, 2019 Department of Metallurgical Engineering, BIT Sindri and IIM Students’ Chapter BIT Sindri jointly hosted the Dr Rajendra Prasad Memorial Metal Quiz’19 in the memory of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first HOD of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, to commemorate his contributions and seek his eternal blessings. More than 5000 students from various schools of Dhanbad district participated in the quiz and competed against each other to bag top positions.

 


Interim-director and HOD, Prof. (Dr.) B. N. Roy spoke about the scopes in the field of metallurgy, encouraging the young minds to pursue their career in that field. Thereafter, Prof. A. K. Rajak and Prof. (Dr.) Ghanshyam Rai shared their experiences and the knowledge and also motivated the students to excel in their lives. Chief Guest, Shree Chiranjeev Jha, a highly learned and flamboyant person, D.G.M. in Tata Motors, held the audience with his passionate speech as he shared his words of wisdom and showed the students the path to glory. Prof. R.K. Verma, Prof. S.N. Prasad, Prof. S. Hembram, Prof. S.K. Sharma, Prof. T. Patel and other professors of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering were also a part of this grand event.
The competition was lively where students competed with full enthusiasm. There were a number of technical rounds incorporated with questions that tested the competitors in each and every field of science and technology.

 

The winners from junior section were:

  • 1st position– Ram Lakhan Verma, Raj Rawani (DAV Model, CFRI)
  • 2nd position– Mudit Raj, Nikhil Kumar Agarwal (De Nobili, CFRI)
  • 3rd position– Sandeep Kumar, Ravi Lal Gorai (SVM, Sindri)

The winners from senior section were:

  • 1st position-Jagrit Napit & Rishab Kumar (SVM, Sindri)
  • 2nd position– Utkarsh Kumar & Shruti (De Nobili, CMRI)
  • 3rd position– Sarnendu & Sinjan (De Nobili, CMRI)

The participants as well as winners shared a glorious moment and made their parents and school proud. The event ended with a promise that in the coming years, the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, BIT Sindri will keep on organizing such events related to the field of material science with an aim to nourish young minds and bring out the innovative ideas that dwells within, along with providing an opportunity to learn and to grow.

  1. Glad to know that BIT Sindri organised Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Metal Quiz and plan to continue in coming years also. This way students will be able to know about a great teacher, scholar and above all an excellent human being that Prof. Rajendra Prasad was. There may be numerous examples of students who would have directly got benefitted from his students helping attitude. I myself feel lucky one to have got help and inspiration from him but for whom I would not have been able to become a metallurgical engineer as it was he who decided for me for taking branch and college.
