It is evident that engineering marvels stretch human imagination and almost defy the laws of physics. Engineering marvels also encompass feats of construction.
On the 55th National Engineers’ Day, the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the Civil Engineering Society in association with ACE BIT Sindri organized a seminar on “Philosophy of Earthquake Resistant Design.”
The guest of honour and keynote speaker for the event was Dr. S. C. Dutta, Professor, IIT(ISM)Dhanbad. The event was convened by Dr. Ranvijay Singh, HOD Civil Engineering Department, and coordinated by Dr. Sumit Kumar, Assistant Prof. Civil Engineering Department along with the ACE Coordinators.
The event commenced with lighting the lamp and garlanding a portrait of M. Visvesvaraya by Professor Dr. S. C. Dutta, Prof. IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, Dr. D. K. Singh, Director B.I.T Sindri, Prof. (Dr) Ghanshyam, Chairman, Career Development Centre cum Training & Placement Officer, B.I.T Sindri, along with other professors.

The event comprised of two parts. The first part threw light on ‘Technical Aspects of Structure Analysis.’ Dr. S. C. Dutta shared some insights from his thesis and showed the audience an informative presentation on ‘Philosophy of Earthquake Resistant Design’ followed by erudite interactions between Dr. Vikrama Pandey, Prof. Civil Engineering Department, and the keynote speaker. Dr. D. K. Singh, on this auspicious occasion, enumerated the capabilities of engineers and how they are constantly striving toward bringing a positive change across the globe. He provided insight into how Indian engineers have maximized and channelized their potential and elevated India to the status of the ‘Fifth Biggest Economy in the World’. Prof. (Dr) Ghanshyam intonated the crowd with interesting stories and insights from the life of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. He stressed on how the Civil engineering department was inaugurated by Morarji Desai which later became one of the finest departments of the college.
The chief guest was bestowed with a memento of Bhagwan Birsa Munda by our Director.
The latter part of the event started with great enthusiasm. It involved a fun ‘Quiz Segment’ wherein questions were asked around the day. The audience actively participated and the winners were presented with a gift.
The evening of 15th September 2022 was one packed with learning and celebration and a day to remember all those heroes who have made our lives easier. Everyone left the hall with the hope to contribute to a promising India.
