BIT Sindri, a leading engineering college in India, recently celebrated its 75-year legacy with a grand Platinum Jubilee event. The event lasted 3 days starting alongside Jharkhand’s 24th foundation day on 15th November and ending on 17th November . Alumni from across the years, including industry and academic leaders, returned to campus to commemorate this historic milestone. A few names among the hundreds of distinguished guests and eminent personalities that graced the event were :
Shri Amrendu Prakash, Chairman of SAIL and Chief Guest , Mr. A. K. Jha, former Director (Tech) of NTPC Ltd.,Mr. Raj Kumar Choudhary, CMD of NHPC , Mr. S.C. Suman, Director (Technical) of NLC India Limited , Dr. B.S. Sahaya , Director , IIM Jammu and several other pioneers in their respective domains.

The celebrations on the first day began with an inaugural session featuring a ceremonial lamp-lighting, symbolizing BIT Sindri’s journey from its origins to becoming a beacon of engineering excellence. It was followed by a divine Saraswati Vandana and a welcome address by Dr. Pankaj Rai, Director of BIT Sindri. The day was filled with insightful panel discussions on topics ranging from “Sustainable Development and India’s Energy Transition” ; “Digitalization and AI in the Mining Industry” , “Recent Advancements in manufacturing” , “ Digital Technology & Women Empowerment” where the eminent speakers from their respective fields shared their thoughtful insights with the students. In the evening, a grand musical concert by a renowned band from Kolkata was organised as a marvellous entertainment program for the alumni . The day concluded with dinner at the Director’s Bungalow hosted by Director, BIT Sindri.
The second day of BIT Sindri’s Platinum Jubilee celebration was marked by significant events that showcased the institute’s commitment to academic excellence, student development, and technological empowerment consisting of a thought-provoking seminar on ‘Communication 6G and Beyond’ chaired by Prof . Ramjee Prasad (BIT Alumni , Electronics and Communication Engineering 1964-1968 ), a seminar on “Clean Renewable Energy” along with a grand Laptop Distribution Ceremony, organized by BITSAANA, where we saw 75 laptops being distributed to students. Presided over by BITSAANA President Mr. Prabhat Kumar, the event highlighted the importance of digital tools in education. Commemorating 75 years of the institution’s excellence , the Legacy Stone was unveiled at Gate 1. The day also witnessed the opening of a Boys’ Gym, contributed by the 1980 alumni batch. Lastly, the Golambar/Garden near the Admin Building was inaugurated by alumni from the 1985 batch. Just like the first day , the second day also ended with a grand musical concert to entertain the alumni in the Platinum Jubilee night .
The final day began with a floral tribute to the institute’s first Director, Professor D.L. Deshpande, at the Deshpande Auditorium, followed by a vibrant cultural dance representing Jharkhand’s rich heritage.It was followed by a special event in which the institute honored its staff for their dedication, presenting them with shawls and handbags. Dignitaries highlighted their invaluable contributions to the campus’s cleanliness and greenery. All the events across these three days exemplified BIT Sindri’s dedication to fostering growth and excellence during its Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

In between these magnamous events being organised in the campus, Sarjana team had a significant role in covering all the news and buzz around the campus. We also got an opportunity to interview the esteemed alumni of B.I.T. Sindri, Shri Amrendu Prakash who is currently serving as the Chairman of SAIL. His insights on technology and personal life gave us inspiration to shape our life and our surroundings.
The three-day Platinum Jubilee celebration of BIT Sindri concluded with a grand ceremony commemorating 75 years of excellence in technical education. Overall, the event was a major success and the invaluable contributions of professors, staff, students, alumni, media personnel, delegates, and all involved were truly commendable and deserving of the highest appreciation.
